The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Shooters Handball Club will feature in this year’s National Division 1 Handball League in Edo State, www.aclsports.com reports.
The National Division 1 Handball League is scheduled for 22nd to 29th July 2023 in Benin City, Edo State.
According to a reliable source in Zaria, the Acting Director of Physical Training (PT) in the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Abdulrahman Bello has directed members of the COAS Shooters to resume camp before the end of June 2023.
Under the leadership of Brigadier General Olawale Fawole (former Director of PT), COAS Shooters failed to show up for the 2021 Prudent Energy Handball League and missed the 2022 National Division 1 Handball League.
The source told www.aclsports.com that COAS Shooters posted to various units including ‘Hot Spots’ in the country have been cleared to report back to Zaria and commence training immediately.
He said, “I am happy to notify your organisation that COAS Shooters have indicated interest to participate in this year’s National Division 1 Handball League. Most of the players have zeroed their minds this season but with the deployment of Brigadier General Abdulrahman Bello, the players’ hope began to rise.
“COAS Shooters were title contenders in the Prudent Energy Handball League and we gave all the teams a good fight. The goal of the Acting Director of Physical Training (PT) in the Nigerian Army is for the handball team to return back to the top-flight league next season; I am optimistic the players will deliver.
“The handball enthusiast should expect a rebranded COAS Shooters this season as we are leaving no stone unturned in Benin.”
