Gymnastics: Team Nigeria begin quest for medals in South Africa

Nigeria will see Eleven gymnasts consisting of 10 girls and one boy wear it’s color at the Regional African Gymnastics Championship in South Africa. The level 4-9 regional tournament is slated to begin from 4th of August and end on August 5, 2017.

The gymnasts are: Gabriella Asemota, Nfonmma Bassey, Asemota Daniella, Lara Anot, Ealga Tobrise, Iveren Hagher, Babarinde Emmanuel, Asemota Amaka, Esther Okotie Eboh, Akinbobore Mindy and Uche Eke an Olympic gymnast who came all the way from the United States to represent Nigeria.

According to the leader of the delegation, head coach Tony International Gymnastics club, Anthony Asuquo, the Nigerian young Gymnasts will do the country proud in South Africa.

Coach Anthony noted that since they arrive the gymnasts make use of the facilities at the High performance center (HPC) university of Pretoria for daily training sessions.

He told ACLSports.com that his main target is to see Nigeria at the podium in Tokyo 2020 Olympics, saying: “I believe in possibilities and I believe we are going to come out in flying colours. “My target is to get Nigeria gymnastics to be a top watch gymnastics country. We also have an Olympic gymnastics that came all the way from the United States to represent Nigeria in South Africa, he is Uche Eke” Coach Anthony said.

He further said the Regional African Gymnastics Championship will serve as a preparation for the All Africa Games and Commonwealth games.
