Gumel, 37 State Association Chairmen to attend AFN Congress

The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Habu Gumel and the 37 States Athletics Association Chairmen will attend the Athletics Federation of Nigeria Congress.

The Annual General Congress of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) will hold on 4th December, 2019 in Akwa, Anambra state.

In a statement signed by Amanzi Marcus, the Chairman Media and Publicity Committee, the Chairman of the Organising Committee for congress, Patrick Onyedum announced the readiness for the event.

According to the statement, the FCT Athletics Association Chairman and the 36 State Athletics chairmen will be at the congress.

Onyedum, who is a Board member representing the South East zone disclosed that Tuesday is arrival date while Thursday, December 5th is departure date.

It read, “Association Chairmen and Board Members of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria are to be accredited on Tuesday, 3rd December and the congress proper on Wednesday, 4th December.

On his part, President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Ibrahim Shehu Gusau confirmed that a Board meeting will be held on Tuesday 3rd December 2019 in Awka prior to the congress the next day.

Ibrahim Shehu Gusau, who is also a vice President of the Confederation of Africa Athletics, said, “The constitution of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria confers on me the power to call for meetings and the invitation letters earlier sent to the 37 State Association Chairmen including that of the FCT on 4th November 2019 inviting them for the Congress still remains valid as nothing has changed nor has the Congress been postponed.

“There is no better avenue to discuss the progress of athletics,” he concluded.

President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee Habu Gumel is among dignitaries expected to attend the AFN AGM.
