Turkish champions Galatasaray announced on Wednesday that Nigeria’s prolific forward, Victor Osimhen, has sustained a moderate muscle strain accompanied by internal bleeding in his left leg during international duty with the Super Eagles, www.aclsports.com reports.
Following the striker’s return to Turkey, the club stated that an MRI scan conducted at its sponsor hospital, Acibadem, revealed the extent of the injury.
“In the MRI scans performed today at our sponsor hospital, Acibadem, our football player Victor Osimhen was found to have a moderate strain (strain and bleeding) in the left posterior muscle, and his treatment has begun,” Galatasaray said.
Osimhen, 26, picked up an injury during the Super Eagles’ World Cup African playoff final against DR Congo. He was withdrawn at the break after feeling pain at the back of his leg, and his discomfort was clear as he made his way off the pitch. While the team offered no immediate update on his condition, his reaction raised early concerns about the severity of the issue.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles ultimately failed to qualify for the inter-continental World Cup playoffs and will now focus on the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next month.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian international has been shortlisted for the 2025 African Men’s Player of the Year award, alongside Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah.
