He said, “After my 2 years’ layoff, we decided to go back to the grassroots and develop new young girls. Coaches are not motivated to develop new players but we need to do something different and that was the motivation.

“Our major focus is to expose the young girls who are average aged 15 and 16 years. However, we are ready.

“The short-term target is to encourage more young girls to play handball in Bariga while our long-term target is to make Funad Handball Academy, Bariga a formidable name in Nigeria Handball”.

Shittu applauded the Executive Chairman, Bariga Local Council, Honourable Kolade Alabi for his more and financial support to the team.

He said provided an enabling environment for sports to thrive in the Local Government Council.

The National U19 Girls coach said, “I want to extend gratitude to the Executive Chairman of Bariga Local Council for everything he has done for the growth and development of sports, especially handball.

“Since the team indicated interest in participating in the National Division 1 Handball League, the chairman has one several occasions supported the team financially during their training sessions which the players appreciate.

“We promise to make the local council by making a huge impact in the league.”
