First Bank Basketball Club and Dolphins Basketball Club will represent Zone 3 at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women in Mozambique.

The two Nigerian clubs emerged winners and runner-up at the FIBA Africa Zone 3 Qualifiers respectively, in Cotonou this week.

After they both won their respective games against Police of Ghana and Energie of Benin Republic, the Elephant Girls beat Dolphins 86-68 to be crowned winners of the FIBA Africa Zone 3.

First Bank guard, Nkechi Akashili was awarded the most valuable player and highest scorer.

Eleven, rather than the originally scheduled twelve clubs, are expected to take part in this year’s FIBA Africa Champions Cup Women in Maputo.

Unexpectedly, Primeiro D’Agosto of Angola, who won last edition will not defend their continental title.

This year’s FIBAACCW lineup is as follows: InterClube de Luanda (Angola), FAP (Cameroon), Equity Bank (Kenya), Kenya Port Authority (Kenya), MB2ALL (Madagascar), Ferroviario de Maputo (Mozambique), First Bank Basketball (Nigeria), Dolphins (Nigeria), INSS (DR Congo), ASB Victoria (DR Congo) and Lakers (Zimbabwe).

The FIBA Africa Champions Cup will take place between November 16-25 in Maputo.
