FIBAACCW: Nwajei leads First Bank past MB2ALL

First Bank guard, Jasmine Nwajei scored 17 points to lead First Bank Basketball Club past MB2ALL of Madagascar in the opening game of the FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women in Maputo, Mozambique.

The Elephant Girls defeated the Malagasy Club 74-40 points on Saturday. Nwajei made 60% of her FG , 3/5 from the arc and 2 of 2 from the line in 25 minutes played for First Bank.

Three other players finished on double figures, Mfutila Makiese (13), Malaika Green (12) and Nkechi Akashili 12 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. First Bank made 5/13 from the deep and shot 23 of 32 from the free throw line.

The Elephant Girls dominated in all four quarters (13-9), (21-14), (17-4), (23-13) against a tepid MB2ALL team who suffered a total of 25 turn overs in the entire game.

First Bank maintained the onslaught in the second half as the Malagasy side were limited to just 4 points in the third quarter.

No player finished on double figures for MB2ALL and had Harisoa Muriel Hajanirina as the team’s top performer with 7 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal.

The Nigerian representative will next face Kenya Ports Authority on Sunday the 18th.
