Primeiro de Agosto point guard Manny Quezada scored 36 points to lead the 8-time champions past their local rivals Petro Atletico in first leg of the Elite 8 of the FIBA Africa Basketball League in Angola on Friday.

Agosto were outscored in the first quarter 17-16 but came back stronger in the second quarter and never looked back. The lead was increased to 14 points at the end of the third quarter after Agosto outscored Atletico 20-7.

Quezada scored 5 of his 11 three pointers and shot 13/16 from the line in 34 minutes. The Dominican Republic born guard added five rebounds, four assists and three steals as he led Agosto to a 70-57 victory over their rivals in an all Angolan tie.

According to FIBA stats, Quezada recorded a FIBA Africa Basketball League 2019’s record for most points scored in a game.

Olimpio Cipriano scored 15 points and eight defensive boards while Leonel Paulo added 10 points and eight rebounds for Petro Atletico.

Petro Atletico suffered 17 turn overs as against 9 made by their opponents, Agosto who made 22 points from the turned over balls.

Primeiro de Agosto will host the return leg on Friday April 5 at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda, Luanda-Angola.

In the second quarter final game, Al Ahly will host their local rivals Smouha at the Indoor Hall 2, Cairo Stadium, Cairo on Sunday March 24.
