FIBA WCQ: D’Tigers maintain unbeaten run

Nigeria senior men’s national team, D’Tigers wrapped up the fourth window of the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers with 89-61 point win over Senegal at the Indoor Sports Hall National Stadium Lagos on Sunday.

Senegal who were on a 7-match winning streak before their loss to Nigeria, displayed a disppointing performance from tipoff.

D’Tigers rolled over them from the first quarter building a 13-point lead at the end of the first quarter (27-14) and never looked back.

D’Tigers captain, Ik Diogu showed his leadership quality during the game leading other two D’Tigers on double digits. Diogu scored 17 points and 9 rebounds in 27 minutes played. He made 6/12 of his FG and 3 of 5 from the arc.

Al-Farouk Aminu contributed 12 points and 8 rebound while Ike Iroegbu came off the bench to score 10 points and 5 assists.

Despite Senegalese star player, Gorgui Dieng leading the way with 17 points and 9 rebounds it wasn’t enough to overcome the huge deficit having suffered 23 turn overs while Xane Dalmeida added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assits.

In other games played in Group F, Coted I’voire beat Mali 69-56 while Rwanda lost to Central African Republic 61-68.

At the end of this window, Nigeria lead Group F with 18 points, Senegal second with 16 points, Central African Republic and Coted I’voire 13 points while fifth placed Rwanda have 12 points.

Nigeria will play the next round of qualifying games in the February FIBA window taking place between 22-24 in a yet to be decided venue.
