EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria wrestlers train in Bayelsa for the World Wrestling Championship

Less than 11 days to the World Wrestling Championships, the national team wrestlers have resumed camping exercise at the Den Gymnasium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa.

The world championship is scheduled for Paris, France from August 21th to 26th, 2017.

ACLSports.com gathered that the Ondo team were the first batch of wrestlers to resume camp followed by other state wrestlers.

According to a source (name withheld) in Bayelsa, the camping exercise is to get the wrestlers well prepared before the world championship.

The wrestlers invited to camp includes all the Africa Champions at the 2017 tournament in Marrakech, Morocco as well as sparing partners.

“Mercy Genesis (48kg) Odunayo Adekuoroye (55kg), Aminat Adeniyi (58kg), Blessing Oborududu (63kg), Kemeasuodei Dressman (69kg) and Gofit Winnie (75kg), Bisola Makanjuola (60kg) are the female wrestlers in camp, while Emmanuel John, Soso Tamara and Amas Daniel are all in camp”.

Information reaching ACLSports.com says the athletes have been training twice a day for the upcoming World Wrestling Championship.

It is worthy to note that Nigeria sensational wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye in 2015 became the second Nigerian to win a bronze medal after defeating Xeuchun Zhong of China in the 2nd 53Kg bronze match in the World Wrestling Championship in Las Vegas, USA.

It is on record that Ifeoma Ihenacho is the only female Nigeria wrestler who have won a double bronze medal back to back at the 2009 FILA Wrestling World Championships held at the Messecenter Herning exhibition center in Herning, Denmark and also at the 2010 FILA
Wrestling World Championships held at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow , Russia.
