“Taiwo Awoniyi has joined KAA Gent on a season-long loan deal ,” a statement from the Reds read.

Only last week, the Nigerian youth international sealed a new deal at Anfield, committing his long-term future to the club as he put pen to paper on an extension.

The 20-year-old, who joined the English side in the summer of 2015, returns to Belgium, where he spent the 2017/2018 season on loan at Royal Excel Mouscron.

He scored ten goals and provided seven assists in 31 appearances at Mouscron.

Gent will be hoping Awoniyi replicates that form, as they bid to make an impact in the UEFA Europa League after finishing fourth in the Belgian League last season.

Awoniyi has represented Nigeria at U17, U20 and U23 levels, with FSV Frankfurt, and NEC Nijmegen other clubs he has spent his time on loan.
