Day 5: Nigeria drops on medals table at the 2018 AYG

Team Nigeria is currently placed third on the medals table after the end of Day 5 at the ongoing Africa Youth Games in Algiers, Algeria.

Nigeria has 37 medals, 13 of which are gold, 9 silver and 15 bronze medals in Algiers.

The country won medals in the following events; badminton, cycling, Judo, gymnastics, weightlifting and taekwondo.

Nigeria and Egypt will on Tuesday (tomorrow) play for the gold medal in the men’s volleyball, while Nigeria face South Africa in the men’s hockey semifinals after 1 nil victory over Zimbabwe.

In the Table Tennis mixed team event, Nigeria will face Morocco to enter the quarter finals of the games.

In the beach volleyball event, Nigeria’s male and female Beach Volleyball teams were sent packing by the Algeria and Egyptian teams.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian sports team came on top of the list of medal and has so far gained 86 medals including 49 gold, 20 silver and 7 bronze medals.
Second on the list is Algeria with 76 medals including 20 gold, 24 silver and 32 bronze medals.
