Sunshine Stars coach Duke Udi’s stock continues to rise as he was named the Nigerian League Manager of the Month of July on Wednesday.

Udi, alongside Lobi Stars forward Antony Okpotu were chosen as winners for the monthly recognition organised by the League Bloggers Awards (LBA) for their outstanding performances in July.

Udi led his new side, Sunshine Stars through six matches in July and guided them to four wins and two defeats. Only MFM FC under Ilechukwu matched the record of Sunshine Stars in that month. However, two of Sunshine’s victories came on the road at ABS and Rivers United, a feat that gave him the nod ahead of Ilechukwu.

Akwa United’s much loved trainer Abdu Maikaba and Shooting Stars’ Fatai Amoo were the other coaches in the final shortlist for July’s gong.

In the players category, Okpotu beat VAT Wonder Goal winner Sani Abbani of Gombe United as well as Musa Newman and Godwin Obaje of Akwa United and FC Ifeanyiubah respectively to the award.

The burly Lobi striker scored four goals in consecutive games in July. The goals came in games against Rangers in Makurdi, Katsina United in Katsina, Remo Stars in Makurdi and Enyimba in Calabar.
