Rivers United slumped to yet another defeat in the CAF Champions League group stage after a disappointing 2-1 loss to RS Berkane in Uyo on Friday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Having lost last weekend to Pyramids, Mamadou Camara’s own goal handed the Nigerian side the lead but two goals in stoppage time for the visitors left Rivers United winless after two group matches.

As part of changes to rhe squad from the loss in Cairo, Timothy Zachariah and Emmanuel Nnaji were introduced into the starting line up in place of Boluwaji Sholumade and Taofeeq Otaniyi by head coach Finidi George.

Rivers United, who lost to Pyramids of Egypt in their group opener, started this game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on the front foot.

Despite the early dominance, the Pride of Rivers struggled to create meaning goal scoring chances. However, Timothy was lively on the flanks, as well as Friday Ubong.

Rivers United thought they had taken the lead when Timothy headed a ball home midway through the half but the goal was chalked off for offside. Moments later, Friday went close from distance but his effort went wide.

However, Rivers United went ahead to eventually take the lead through Mamadou Camara’s own-goal in the 37th minute. The goal forced the Moroccans out to play, but the home side held on till halftime.

After the break, Rivers United were a bit conservative in their approach, but could have doubled their tally when Otaniyi, who came on for Friday earlier, saw his effort stopped by Monir El Kajoui.

When it seems Rivers United have secured the win, they lost the game in stoppage time. El Kaabi Youness first grabbed the equalizer seven minutes into stoppage time before Mounir Chouiar scored the winning goal two minutes later.

In the end, the Pride of Rivers slumped to another defeat that leaves them winless after two games in Africa’s Premier club football competition.

The 2025-26 CAF Champions League campaign will not return until after the AFCON in January when Rivers United travel to Zambian side Power Dynamos on match day three.
