The Minister of Sports, Barr Solomon Dalung has promised to investigate Halir Muhammed missing the 2018 Africa Youth Games in Algiers, Algeria.

Dalung stated this in his office when Tony Asuquo led TIG team paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.

It was alleged that the passport of the young gymnast was seized few hours before Team Nigeria departed for Algiers because of an argument with the cook of the camp.

Dalung said anyone found guilty of the allegation will be sanctioned.

“We will investigate into this matter and sanction whoever is responsible for this, nobody has the right to hold anybody’s passport because it is a personal property. This issue will be treated urgently in order to address the problem and negate any recurring tendencies”, he concluded.

He however lauded gymnasts from the Tony International Gymnastics (TIG) team for making the nation proud at the 2018 African Levels System Gymnastics Championship in South Africa.

“I thank all of you for making Nigeria proud, gymnastics is one sport that is not only interesting, it is global and an Olympic sport so if you have chosen to be a gymnast I think you have taken a good decision.

All that you need to do first is you have to be disciplined, hardworking and you need to listen to your coaches.  In addition, you also need to come to training regularly because if you come to training today and do not come the next day you will not make good progress” he advised.

The sports minister supported the team with the sum of two hundred thousand naira (200,000).

The Tony Asuquo led TIG team represented Nigeria at the club tournament, surpassing their last outing winning a total number of 22 medals; 10 golds, 6 silver and 6 bronze respectively.
