Reigning African Women Player of the Year Asisat Oshoala believes former African football Queen Perpetua Nkwocha probably did not know she admired her while they shared same dressing room for the Super Falcons.

Oshoala, 25, was the guest of an Instagram Live Session on the official page of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday.

The Barcelona Femeni forward was asked who her role models were in the Nigerian national side and she spoke explicitly.

“Perpetua was the player that when they come from abroad, I watched her closely when I just joined the Falcons and I admired her a lot, she doesn’t know but as a young girl there are these people you look up to and want to be like.

“For Mercy (Akide), I used to watch her games and I really modelled my game after them because these are female players that I always watched when I was pretty young” she added.

While Oshoala never got to play with Akide; the maiden recipient of the Women’s Player of the Year in Africa, the current holder was in the Falcons side that won the African Women’s Championship (AWC) in Namibia 2014 alongside Nkwocha.

Oshoala went ahead to name both Falcons Legends (Akide and Nkwocha) in her All Time Six-a-side team for the Falcons. The team also includes Oshoala’s best friend and pal Onome Ebi as well as the team’s captain at their inaugural AWC triumph in 1998, Florence Omagbemi.

The selected goalkeeper by Oshoala is rave of the moment Chiamaka Nnadozie.
