Former DG of NSC, Dr. Amos Adamu as well as the CEO of Padmozi Sports, organisers of the Okpepe Road Race, Mr. Mike Itemagbor are some of the high-profile Nigerians that have confirmed that they would work as volunteers during the 21st African Senior Athletics Championships.

Others include permanent secretaries, commissioners, captains of industries as well as other VIPs within and outside Delta state.

Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Chief Solomon Ogba expressed delight that the interest being shown by some highly-respected individuals will be examples shown to the younger ones.

“We are happy that we are showing that in Nigeria, people can willingly submit themselves to support a good course through working as volunteers. Across the world, this has been the norm and thankfully Asaba and Delta State are also setting a good example for Nigeria and Africa as a whole,” the LOC boss noted.

On his part, the Mr. Itemagbor said he has always been an advocate for volunteers at his Silver Labelled Okpekpe road race but right now he is ready to lead by example to actually work as a volunteer himself.

“We hope the younger ones can learn from us and chose to support great things like this, the fulfillment is in seeing this championship succeed and that supersedes any monetary gains and otherwise, ”he stated.
