World 100m hurdles record holder Oluwatobiloba Amusan won two Gold medals as Nigeria enjoyed a successful day in the Athletics event of the African Games on Thursday with a couple at the expense of hosts Ghana, www.aclsports.com reports.

Amusan, quite as expected defended her African Games crown by clocking 12.89 seconds to finish ahead of Fiadanantsoa Sidonie of Uganda and Tinashe Kamamgirira of Zimbabwe to win Gold in her personalised event. Nigeria’s up and coming athlete Faith Osamuyi came a close fourth.

Amusan would then later spearhead a comfortable win for Nigeria in the women’s 4×100m relay with a time of 43.05 seconds, beating Liberia and Ghana to second and third respectively. Justina Tiana Eyakpobeyan, Olayinka Olajide and Moforehan Ololade Abinusawa maintained a competitive field before Amusan coasted home on the last leg in Grand style.

The two other Gold Medals won on Thursday came from the men as Chidi Okezie won the 400m in a time of 45.06 seconds, beating Muzaka Samukonga of Zambia and Senegal’s Cheikh Diouf to second and third respectively.

The biggest drama of the night was in the last action for the day as Nigeria’s 4×100m men’s team won Gold medal after a photo finish with Ghana. Nigeria returned a time of 38.41 seconds as against Ghana’s 38.43 seconds. Liberia finished third with a time of 38.73 seconds.

In a related development, Nigeria’s Esther Elo Joseph won silver medal in the women’s 400m after returning a time of 51.61 seconds, the fantastic talent only beaten by Mary Moraa of Kenya who claimed 50.57 seconds.
