Centre back Kenneth Omeruo (MON) was among three members of Nigeria’s Super Eagles who have arrived Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom state capital on Sunday ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON2021) qualifier against Benin.

The West African neighbours will clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Wednesday in their opening group game as the race for qualification for AFCON 2021 gets underway.

One of the team’s longest serving players Kenneth Omeruo was the earliest player to arrive the team’s Ibom Hotel and Resort camp on Sunday evening alongside France based Samuel Kalu.

Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr also arrived on Sunday evening while Portugal based midfielder Mikel Agu joined the duo of Omeruo and Kalu as the only other player in the camp.

A full complement of invited players are expected on Monday morning while the team will have their first and most important outfield training session before the game at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Team captain Ahmed Musa who featured for his Saudi Arabian side in a Cup game on Saturday is expected to lead other players to camp on Monday morning. His assistant William Troost-Ekong is however likely to miss the evening training after playing on Sunday evening for Udinese.

Nigeria vs Benin will kick off at 5pm on Wednesday, November 13.
