Last week Wednesday, Liverpool FC confirmed that they have agreed a world record fee in the region of £75m – the highest for any defender; with Southampton for Dutch centre back, Virgil Van Dijk (VVD).

To this effect, the Reds have wasted no time in unveiling their record signing as the January transfer window opens.

When asked how he feels to have finally signed for Liverpool, the elated Dutch centre back said: “Well, fantastic obviously. I am happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”

I think the most important thing is the size of the club, the culture of the club, the players, the manager and obviously the fans, who make the club this special. With the history at the club and everything around it – even the training ground and stuff – it is just a perfect, perfect match for me, and for my family as well,” he added.

To the fans, he said: “I am going to work hard every game, every day. I am going to give my everything, try to keep clean sheets and hopefully try and be a threat in front of goal as well. I think the main thing is just to organise, try to keep clean sheets. I will give everything I’ve got in every game.”
