Commonwealth Games: Fidelis, 11 other weightlifters in Camp

Twelve team Nigeria weightlifters are in a closed camp ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games slated for Gold Coast, Australia in April. The team comprising of seven female and five male camping at the Package B of the Abuja National Stadium ends the first phase of the exercise on January 16th, 2017.

The female weightlifters invited to camp are Chika Amalaha (53kg), African Youth Champio, Fatima Yakubu (53kg), Monica Uweh, Augustina Nwaokolo (48kg), Ruth Ayodele (58kg), African Champion Chineye Fedelis and Commonwealth Champion, Victoria Adesanmi.

The male lifters are the African 85kg champion, African Youth Champion, Michael Anyalewechi, Gideon Aigbefoh, Olawale Oredugba, Rilwan Adekunle and Ademola Oginni.

Former female champion, Chika Amalaha makes her return after missing in action for four years.

The Camp Chaperone Chinedu Ezeala said that the lifters have shown great sense of responsibility and discipline. “The weightlifters have obeyed camp rules to the letter and have displayed a great sense of responsibility. We want to ensure a podium performance at the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Australia,” Ezeala stated.

The second phase will be from January 17 to February 16, while the third phase will hold from February 17 to 28.
