Nigeria’s home based Super Eagles on Friday beat Enyimba 1-0 to reach the final of 2017 Nigeria Professional Football League Pre-season Invitational tournament in Kano.

Sunday Faleye’s well executed volley on 55 minutes gave Salisu Yusuf’s men a thoroughly deserved victory which sends them to Sunday’s final game against Lagos-based side MFM FC. Yusuf made eleven changes to the Eagles side held by Plateau United on Wednesday and the new set, dominated by players featuring in an Eagles shirt for the first time in this tournament thoroughly dominated play.

Rivers United’s Emeka Ogbugh hit the post in the first half but it was Faleye – undoubtedly the man of the match – who settled the contest with a powerful volley ten minutes after the break.

In the day’s evening game, MFM FC produced a resolute performance to force hosts Kano Pillars to a 1-1 draw and assured themselves of a chance to contest the tournament trophy against the Super Eagles. The Church Boys went in front as early as the third minute when Adegboyega Adekunle diverted home Stanley Okorom’s vicious free kick for his second goal of the invitational tournament.

Pillars however restored parity on the quarter hour mark through Alassan Ibrahim who rounded up a superb team move with a thumping effort from close range. The hosts sought in vain for the winner in the second half but they met a brick wall in the organised MFM defence.

Super Eagles will face MFM in Sunday’s final at the Sani Abacha Stadium at 4pm local time.
