FIBAACCup: Bulls fall to Petroliers, lose third game in a row

Tournament debutants, Gombe Bulls continued their winless streak with a 103-75 points defeat to Groupement Sportive Petroliers at the ongoing FIBA Africa Champions Cup in Tunisia on Wednesday.

Bulls coming off a loss on Tuesday, failed to get the job from the start of the game and were outplayed in the first half. Despite having Yakubu Sylvanus on double figures with 10 points and 7 rebounds going to the break, they ended the second quarter 62-34.

Sylvanus finished with a double-double,12 points and 11 rebounds. Four other players were also on double figures. John Iduh came off the bench to score a team high 17 points, 8 of 12 from the field. Ibe Agu added 14 points, Kator Gar had 12 points while Abdulwahab Yahaya made 11 points and shot 3/12 from the arc.

Bulls tried to close the gap in the third quarter, scoring more than GSP 27-23 but was still not enough as more of the damage had been done in the second quarter.

Mohammed Harat inspired his team to victory scoring a game high 26 points and 13 rebounds, a double-double recorded for the Algerian and added 3 assists. Nicholas Covington had 17 points and 4 assists, Faycal Belkhodja added 13 points and 5 assists to go with it, while Mustapha Adrar had 12 points for Groupement Sportive Petroliers.

At the end of the first half, GSP made 8 of 19 from the deep and 11 of 30 in the entire game. They also had an impressive shooting from the line in the game as they shot 24/27 from the line. While Bulls made just 4/22 from the arc, 15/25 from the line with a poor shooting from the field averaging 41.79%.

For a second time in three games, GSP scored above a 100 points and bounced back from their loss to Sport Libolo of Angola on Tuesday.

Gombe Bulls remain winless in the competition and play Sport Libolo of Angola on Thursday.
