Lawrence Iquaibom has been invited by the technical department of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) for the World Championships in California. Iquaibom is a 1990 Commonwealth Games silver medallist.

The Director of Sports Akwa Ibom state will be one of the International Technical Officials to officiate when the championships kicks off from November 28th to December 6th, 2017.

The former Technical Director Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) informed aclsports.com that the nomination came on merit and for the consistent performance of the country at international events.

He expressed optimism that Nigeria officials will get call ups more often if the country attends more international tournaments.

“I’m heading to Anaheim, California as one of the International Technical Officials to officiate in the World Weightlifting Championships and this is a clear indication that Nigeria is very much recognized”.

“The invitation calls for more work and I’ll always be there to administer advise to the Weightlifting Federation in Nigeria”, he said.
He promised to support the board led by Yahaya Mohammed in recording medals at the All Africa Games, African Championships and ultimately winning medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games.
