2017 AITEO Cup winners Akwa United on Thursday demolished little known amateur side Immortality FC 12-0 to take their pre-season tally to eighteen goals in two matches.

United, one of Nigeria’s two representatives in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup have been preparing for the new season in their home base of Uyo and have been engaging in series of low grade friendlies before next month’s NPFL Invitational Tournament in Kano.

Playing at the practice pitch of the Nest of Champions, Abdu Maikaba’s wards thrashed their grossly inexperienced opponents 12-0 with midfielder Cyril Olisema netting a first half hattrick.

Striker Christian Pyagbara added a brace as the Promise Keepers went into the break with a 5-0 lead.

United’s hero in the AITEO Cup final Gabriel Okechukwu added a second half brace as well as winger Hassan Babangida with Musa Newman and Franklyn Ekong wrapping up the scoring with a goal apiece.

Thursday’s win follows the team’s 6-1 win over another local side Bright Stars FC twenty four hours earlier.

Akwa United will join other continental representatives Enyimba, MFM and Plateau United in the NPFL invitational tournament starting from December 11 in Kano. Nigeria’s home based Super Eagles and hosts Kano Pillars will also participate in the tournament.
