Sporting Lagos and Akwa United will be fighting for the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) promotion ticket when the Nigeria National League (NNL) final day takes place, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Lagosians and the Promise Keepers have gone toe-to-toe since the opening weeks of the campaign, and their fierce battle for promotion has now reached a dramatic climax.

Everything will be decided on the final matchday of the second-tier season after Sporting Lagos secured a crucial victory over Rovers FC on Wednesday in Lagos, keeping their promotion hopes firmly alive. Alex Leme’s first-half goal was all the Lagos side needed to edge the visitors in a tense game decided at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan.

With the win, Sporting Lagos leapfrogged Akwa United to take top spot, and will be the favourites to take the NPFL ticket when the final games are decided on the 15th of April. Currently, Sporting Lagos have 33 points, while Akwa United have garnered 32 points.

Sporting Lagos, who were relegated in 2024, will travel to Ile Ogbo to face all-but-relegated Osun United, needing a win to secure their return to the top flight. While Akwa United, who will be hoping the Lagos side drops points, will also be guests of Solution FC at the Awka Township Stadium.

Meanwhile, Doma United and Inter Lagos have already booked their spots in the 2026/27 NPFL season, while the other Northern Conference group has not been decided yet.
