Super Falcons striker Francisca Ordega on Friday joined Atletico Madrid on a 5-month loan deal, the Spanish club have announced. Ordega who is currently contracted with United States’ National Women’s Soccer League side Washington Spirit will stay in Spain until March 2018 when the next NWSL league is due to commence.

The highly rated 24-year old has represented Nigeria at all levels of their national team from the Under-17s and is currently a regular in the senior national team. The former Rivers Angels attacker successfully completed her medicals on Friday morning and was delighted to join the Rojiblancos.

“For me, it’s an honour and I’m very happy to be here,” Ordega told the club’s website.  “Atletico Madrid are a great club with international recognition and I really can’t wait to get started,” she added.

Ordega is expected to add more strength to the newly promoted side who are currently joint top of the Spanish Women’s Football League with football giants Barcelona. Just like Barcelona, Atletico have won all six matches in their debut season in the top flight and are just behind the Catalans on goal difference.

Atletico Madrid are Ordega’s third club in less than a year having also spent time on loan at Australian side Sydney FC in early 2017.
