The Boston Celtics have officially signed D’Tigers center, Daniel Ochefu adding more depth to their front court. Ochefu was released by the Washington Wizards last week after being used sparingly in his rookie season. The 6-11 centre logged 75 minutes of action over 19 games last season as a rookie for the Wizards. In that time, he averaged 1.3 points and 1.2 rebounds, as well as posted a 16.5 percent rebounding rate in 3.9 minutes per game.

The move comes shortly after Celtics’ big man Aron Baynes suffered a hyper-extended knee in a preseason game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Ochefu who led Nigeria to a second place finish at the 2017 Afrobasket in Tunisia and Senegal, is expected to join the team’s affiliate, the Maine Red Claws, for the start of the new season and could eventually get a look in during the season if injuries occur to the Celtics’ current roster.
