We Head Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Éric Sékou Chelle, has named captain Ahmed Musa, Victor Osimhen, reigning African Footballer of the Year Ademola Lookman, and defender William-Troost Ekong in his 39-man provisional list for the upcoming 2026 World Cup Qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, www.aclsports.com reports.
In what was a rather shocking move, the former Mali coach opted for a provisional squad list as against the usual 23-man selection for the crunch forthcoming Qualifiers in Kigali and Uyo later this month.
Apart from Ahmed Musa, who currently plays for Kano Pillars in the Nigeria Premier Football League, Remo Stars second choice goalkeeper Kayode Bankole was named in the list as well Ifeanyi Onyebuchi of Rangers.
Other usual suspects – goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, defenders Calvin Bassey and Olaoluwa Aina, midfielders Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, and forwards Victor Boniface and Simon Moses were also listed.
There are also goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, defenders Bruno Onyemaechi and Zaidu Sanusi, midfielders Frank Onyeka and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and forwards Samuel Chukwueze and Sadiq Umar.
Meanwhile, defenders Igoh Ogbu and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, midfielders Anthony Dennis, Chrisantus Uche and Papa Daniel Mustapha, and forwards Tolu Arokodare and Jerome Akor Adams are named for the first time ever.
It is expected that the list will be trimmed to 23 just before the Super Eagles take on Group C leaders Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, 21st March before taking on Zimbabwe’s Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo four days later.
