Kwara, Ondo and Oyo states athletes have concluded plans to protest over poor welfare by their various state governments ahead of the 2020 National Sports Festival.

The 20th edition of the National Sports Festival is scheduled to take place from 22nd March to 1st April, 2020 in Edo state.

The decision was made by the three states following the bold step by Team Lagos state athletes to protest at the Lagos state government house, Alausa.

One of the Oyo state athlete told www.aclsports.com that the previous administration did not take the welfare of athletes serious at the 2018 National Sports Festival in Abuja.

He said the template used by the previous administration should not be used by Governor Seyi Makinde.

He said, “Oyo state athletes are planning to stage a peaceful demonstration to the government house because we want to let the governor know our predicament. We are appealing to Governor Seyi Makinde to review the welfare package used at the 2018 National Sports Festival”.

Another Kwara state athlete revealed that they are not satisfied with the allowances given them during National Championships.

She said the team sports that qualified for the National Sports Festival and the individual sports are yet to resume camp.

She said, “I am appealing to the state government to call for at least five days camp and improve our allowances. Most athletes do not want to come out because of victimization and labeling by top government officials but we are optimistic the current Governor will do something if he hears our plight”.
