A total of 16 teams have expressed interest in participating in the 3rd Scorpion Spikers Volleyball Tournament, according to the Chairman of Scorpion Spikers, Lieutenant Colonel Julius Usman.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from January 31 to February 3, 2024, at the Mambila Barracks in Abuja.

Lieutenant Colonel Usman confirmed that everything is in place to ensure the tournament’s success, with full support provided for all teams.

He emphasized that the event will not only offer a competitive platform for elite players to kickstart their year but will also provide a valuable opportunity for athletes who have yet to play in professional leagues to showcase their skills.

“16 teams, consisting of 8 men’s and 8 women’s teams, have registered for the 3rd Scorpion Spikers Volleyball Tournament,” said Usman. “The tournament will serve as an important stepping stone in the 2025 volleyball calendar, benefiting both seasoned players and emerging talent.”

He further explained, “The National Divisions 1 and 2 are held during the second quarter of every year, and our tournament provides an avenue for clubs within the FCT and its environs to assess the fitness level of their players.”

“This event will give players the chance to gain exposure, improve their game, and promote the growth of volleyball in the region,” Usman added.

Lt Col Usman also highlighted that the club boasts one of the best volleyball facilities in North Central Nigeria.

“During last year’s FCT Challenge, our home ground was one of the venues, thanks to the quality infrastructure we have. We believe that standard facilities and equipment help produce better players, who are not only capable of competing professionally within Nigeria but also internationally.”

Scorpion men and women’s teams won the second edition of the volleyball tournament in 2023.
