Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) newcomers Jokodolu Babes will be playing their first derby of the season on Wednesday when they face Sunshine Queens.

After a morale boosting home draw against Adamawa Queens in their opening league fixture, the Obinrin rere Queens travel to Akure where there will do battle with a very confident Sunshine Queens side who recorded a thumping 4-1 win over Abia Angels last week.

Jokodolu Babes captain, Blessing Sunday spoke to ACLSports on the prospect of playing her first South West derby in the premier league. “I know it is not going to be easy for me and my girls picking points away from home but with God on our side everything is possible.

“My ideal result would be we picking three points or a draw,” she said. Adding that “It is not going to be that easy for us, we just need to approach the game with confidence.”

When asked about team strength and ability, Blessing Sunday sounded quite confident saying: “Well for me, I will say the team is trying and we are putting in our best. I know we have a good squad and we are going to achieve our goals.”

Jokodolu Babes new signing and former Sunshine Queens player, Alexander Florence is also very confident ahead of the South West encounter as she returns to her former team. “I have believe in my team, we will do everything to get a win. It’s a difficult task but it’s doable.

“It will be a very nice day for me playing against my former friends. The fans in Akure are amazing just like Ogbomoso fans. I will not let the atmosphere of the stadium affect my emotion during the game,” she added.

Sunshine Queens host Jokodolu Babes at the Akure township stadium by 4pm on Wednesday afternoon.
