Aiteo Cup winners, Rivers Angels overcame League Champions, Nasarawa Amazons at the Agege Soccer Temple on Sunday evening to emerge winners of the maiden edition of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Champions Shield.

The match rounded-off a 3-day series of events which included a workshop seminar geared towards encouraging the girl child participation in sports and the National Congress which was centered around the preparation for the new season.

On display at the Agege stadium were arguably two of the best female teams in the NWFL and the spectators were treated to spells of exciting football by both teams.

Alice Ogebe who is fresh from the WAFU tournament drew the first blood in the 42nd minute to put the Rivers based team ahead. In the second half, the NWFL Champions came out fighting and they levelled the scoreline through Ejalonibu Adejoke after a well placed header.

Both teams then huffed and puffed from then on but couldn’t be separated in regulation time. The game went straight into penalties with Rivers Angels winning 4-3 after Uju Joseph converted the decisive spot kick.
