Nigeria Customer Service (NCS) and Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) emerged victorious in their opening matches at the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League Super 4 in Lagos.
In the opening match, Nigeria Customs Ladies edged out hard-fighting new girls, Blue Whales of Bayelsa 35-33 points. In the first quarter, Customs beat Blue Whales 12 to 8 points to make it the highest-scoring quarter while Blue Whales responded well in the second quarter by 10 to 6 points.
The third quarter had plenty of turnover, with both teams failing to convert their chances; the quarter ended 3 to 2 points. Customs lost the fourth quarter by 8 to 9 points, forcing the match to extra time. The leaders of the Savannah Conference eventually won the extra time by 6 to 4 points.
However, there was sweet revenge for MFM Lagos, who defeated arch-rivals Air Warriors 75-48 points in the second match of the day. When the two teams met in the last edition’s final of the Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League, Air Warriors beat the MFM Ladies to take home the coveted trophy.
Nigeria Customs will play against Air Warriors in the first match of the Championship Playoff, followed by MFM Lagos against Blue Whales.
The national finals will include Air Warriors, Nigeria Customs, MFM, and Bayelsa Whales, who qualified from the Atlantic and Savannah Conferences.
