Super Falcons forward, Joy Omewa, scored the goal that handed Fortuna Hjørring a 1–0 win over Breiðablik in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Europa Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday, www.aclsports.com reports.

The 22-year-old Nigerian, struck just a minute into the second half at the Kópavogsvöllur, calmly finishing at the end of a quick counterattack to give the Danish side a vital away victory.

Omewa’s goal, her second in the Europa Cup and fifth in European competitions this season following three in the UEFA Women’s Champions League playoffs, once again demonstrated her importance to Fortuna Hjørring. She has also been in fine form domestically, netting 11 goals in the Danish Women’s League this season.

Omewa featured for 89 minutes before making way for Japanese Risako Watanabe.

Fortuna Hjørring will take a 1–0 aggregate lead into the return leg in Denmark on 19 November, with Omewa hoping to play a key role as her side aims for a place in the quarterfinals of the competition.
