Following the conclusion of the Northern Conference over the weekend, the Elephants and the Kano based Barau FC secured their place in the season-ending event.

In the game decided in Bauchi, Jonathan Mairiga opened the scoring in the 10th minute before adding another one 12 minutes later. Mentaka Bangs scored the third in the 38th minute, before Mairiga completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute. However, Abba Musa scored a consolation goal for Zamfara United in the 89th minute. Meanwhile, it finished goalless between Mighty Jets and Barau FC in Jos.

Speaking after the resounding win, Wikki Tourists head coach, Abdul Maikaba, spoke about his side’s target, and the desire to return to the NPFL.

“When I arrived, the goal was clear, qualify for the Super Eight and bring Wikki Tourists back to the Premier League,” the former Akwa United handler told Wikki Tourists media.

“We are on the right path. With the caliber of players in our squad and continued support, I believe we will achieve promotion,” the Federation Cup winner concluded.

In addition, Yobe Desert Stars, who were relegated from the top-flight in 2019, and Doma United, who are aiming for an immediate promotion back to the elite division, are the other two teams jostling for the two promotion tickets meant for the region.

In the Southern Conference, action still continues with the likes of Kun Khalifat and Warri Wolves expected to clinch the playoff tickets.
