The President Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria (KFN), Abubakar Yakubu has said the federation would work to ensure the return of Kick-boxing into the National Sports Festival.

Yakubu told Aclsports.com that attention will be given to grassroots development which is one of his top priorities.

Yakubu, who is also the Commander of Mopol 20 of the Nigeria Police Force said the federation needed support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and corporate bodies to promote the game in the country.

“As long as I remain President, priority attention will be given to grassroots development which is part of my regime’s main focus”.

“Effort is also being made to return Kick-boxing into the National Sports Festival and later work on its inclusion in the National Youth Games,” Yakubu said.

“We hope to have enough cooperation from the ministry of Sports. We have potential sponsors in Nigeria that will help us to take Kickboxing to the next level”.

“My vision is to take kick-boxing to the grassroots. We want to make it the most popular combat sport in the country”.

The police officer assured the kick boxing family of regular competitions in order to make the athletes keep fit for international tournaments.

“Other board members and I are working tirelessly to ensure age grade competitions as well as senior competitions are held consistently to avoid emergency selection of athletes”.
