Nigerian referees at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON22), Patience Madu and Mimisen Iyorhe Calvin-Onwuka have been handed a group stage assignment for Friday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Both referees will be in action when Burkina Faso face Uganda in their final Group A game on Friday at the Mohammed V Complex in Casablanca, Morocco.

Madu has been named as the centre referee in the game which pits two sides that lost their first two group stage games against one another while Iyorhe Calvin-Onwuka will serve as the first Assistant Referee (AR1).

Beninese Nafissatou Yekini Shitou will serve as the second Assistant Referee (AR2) in the game while Maria Packuita Cynquela Rivet from Mauritius will serve as the fourth official.

While Friday’s game will not be the first for Iyorhe Calvin-Onwuka in the competition having officiated in the Group B game between Tunisia and Togo on Sunday, it will be the first time Madu will be in the thick of proceedings in Morocco.

It promises to be a busy second half of the year for Iyorhe Calvin-Onwuka who has also been listed by world’s football governing body FIFA to officiate in next month’s 2022 U20 FIFA World Cup to be held in Costa Rica.

The 12th edition of the Women’s AFCON will reach a climax on July 23 with the four semi-finalists earning automatic spots at next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
