Volleyball Nations cup: Female squad list released

The Technical Department of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has released her final 14 female list of players that will challenge for the Africa Nation’s cup trophy in Yaounde.

The federation announced their final squad on Tuesday ahead of the branding of the female players by AFA and ingenious company. Coach Usman Abdullah’s squad consists of two foreign players and twelve home based players, a bold attempt to give locally based players a greater sense of belonging in the national side.

The team list includes; Jalmet Ladi, Verera Oyearone (foreign), Theresa Okonma, Aisha Umaru, Chinenye Nwosu, Esther Dosu and Albertina Franca
Others are; Mercy Promise (foreign), Precillia Agera (captain), Franca Ikedi, Comfort Amaonwu, Kelechi Iwobi, Mercy John and Mary Ali.

The officials of the female team are; Usman Abdullah (Head coach), Gloria Peter (Assistant Coach), Adamu Maikano (Team Manager) and Jefferson Sheba (Referee).

The Africa Cup of Nation is scheduled for Yaounde, Cameroon between 7th to 15th October, 2017 serves as a qualifier for the 2018 women world cup.

Nigeria will compete in Yaounde along with hosts,Cameroon, Algeria, Ghana & Cape Verde. Others are Egypt, Botswana, Tunisia, Chad, Congo RD, Kenya, Zambia & Senegal.

The Head coach, Usman Abdalah said Nigeria is parading youthful and  energetic  players whom he believed are capable of doing the nation proud in winning the ticket for the 2018 women world cup.

The President of the Federation, Eng Musa Nimrod who lauded the efforts and sincerity of the technical department in the selection process charged the players and coaches to be good ambassadors of Nigeria.

Nimrod said he is confident on the team winning a world cup ticket in Cameroon having done well in the previous qualifiers. He promised the federation’s continued support for the team till the dream of winning the world cup ticket is realised.

Recall that the Super Falcons last August, beat Ghana and the host Cote D’ivore at the Africa women cup volleyball qualifiers in Abidjan, Côte de voire.
