Super Eagles striker, Paul Onuachu, scored a brace to help Trabzonspor beat Konyaspor 3-1 in the Turkish Super Lig on Saturday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Onuachu, 31, scored twice to lead his side’s comeback win at home in the Turkish top-flight. A result that saw them stay within two points of league leaders, Victor Osimhen’s Galatasaray.
Despite Trabzonspor’s dominant start to the fixture, it was the visitors who got their noses in front after Okay Yokuşlu unintentionally turned the ball into his own net in the 17th minute.
But before the break, Onuachu, who had scored nine league goals previously, brought the home side level in the 43rd minute from the penalty spot before grabbing a second just five minutes after the break.
Just six minutes later, Ernest Muçi scored a third for the hosts to hand them a two-goal cushion. That was all the hosts needed to extinguish Konyaspor, and condemn them to 11th spot on the table provisionally.
Paul Onuachu has taken his tally to 11 goals in just 14 league outings, putting him firmly in the race to dethrone Victor Osimhen as the division’s top scorer from last season. Meanwhile, Osimhen, due to injuries, has missed a couple of league games for Gala, but has been on fire in the UEFA Champions League.
Trabzonspor have closed the gap to just two points behind Galatasaray, who take on Fenerbahçe in a crucial title clash at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium on Monday.
As the title race intensifies, fans would keep an eye on the Turkish Super Lig Fixtures. They are tied on points with Fenerbahçe as well, but the Yellow Canaries stay narrowly in front thanks to a superior goal difference.
