Nigerian young attacker Joel Yakubu has joined Latvian top division side BFC Daugavpils on loan until from Czech Republic outfit Slovan Liberec, until the end of the season, ACLSports.com reports.

Liberec, sanctioned this move in order to afford the youngster more playing time so as to aid his development further at the top level.

Yakubu joined Radoslav Kovać’s Slovan Liberec seventeen months ago from Abuja based Mahanaim FC after distinguishing himself at the club as an exceptional youngster.

He has proved his mettle at the B side of Liberec, who are currently placed fifth in the Czech Republic first league, a development that has now informed the club’s decision to loan him to Latvia for first team experience.

It is also believed that Yakubu, who celebrated his 20th birthday last week is eager to prove himself at the highest level and is expected to come back to fight for a place in the Liberec first team next term.

BFC Daugavpils, based in the city of Daugavpils in Latvia currently play in the Latvian Higher League and will commence the new season on March 7, 2026 with a home game against Grobiņa.
