The AFCON 2013 winners, Nigeria Super Eagles have been drawn in Group A of the #TotalEnergiesAFCON 2023 Qualification series alongside Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau and the winner of Sao Tome and Principe/Mauritius.

There are 12 groups of the 48 countries who have made it to this stage with Nigeria in Pot 1 with holders Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Tunisia, Cameroon, Algeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Ghana, DR Congo and the hosts Cote D’Ivoire.

The draws were held at the SuperSport Studios in Johannesburg, South Africa, Tuesday 19th April. Former AFCON winners Lucas Radebe of South Africa and Soloman Kalou of the Ivory Coast participated.

Fresh from missing out on the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and their worst AFCON outing last time out in Cameroon, the Super Eagles will want to qualify with minimum fuss and make a much better attempt at winning a fourth title.

Nigerians would hope that the Federation will get a new coach in place in time for the start of these qualifiers. Stellar names like Laurent Blanc, Philip Cocu, Ernesto Velverde and Jose Pasiero are said to be in the running to replace Gernot Rohr.
