Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets are through to the FIFA U17 World Cup after a 1-1 draw with Uganda at the Total AFCONU17 in Tanzania on Saturday.

The Eaglets came from a goal down to salvage a point in their final group tie against the East Africans thanks to a lovely second half strike from Ibraheem Jabaar.

The Golden Eaglets dominated the encounter but were thwarted by the brilliant Uganda goalkeeper who kept his side in the game until they finally took the lead against the run of play.

After a barren opening first 45 minutes, John Alou headed the Cubs ahead from a corner kick. However, his goal only lasted six minutes as Nigeria drew level courtesy of Jabaar.

With the result, the Golden Eaglets top the group with seven points, and a place in the semifinal. It also means the Eaglets will fly Nigeria’s colour the U17 World Cup slated for Brazil later this year.

Up next for the Eaglets is a semifinal battle with the second placed team in group B, while Group A runners-up, Angola, tackle group B winners.
