The Super Eagles of Nigeria have slumped from 26th to 30th in the latest FIFA rankings, and they have dropped out of Africa’s top five, aclsports.com reports.
The three-time African champions ranked 26th in the world in the last rankings, but after last month’s mixed results in the AFCON qualifiers, where they defeated Madagascar but lost heavily to Guinea-Bissau, the team has now dropped four places in the rankings released on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, world champions Spain (1st) are settling into their new role as world leaders. Nearly three months on from regaining the top spot in the FIFA World Ranking, La Roja remains out front thanks to UEFA Nations victories over England, Czechia, and a double over Croatia.
The top four is also unchanged, with the reigning world champions staying ahead of Argentina (2nd), France (3rd) and England (4th). However, there has been movement behind the top four. Portugal (5th, plus 2), Brazil (6th, minus 1), Morocco (7th, minus 1), while Belgium (8th), Netherlands (9th) and Mexico (10th) complete the top 10.
In Africa, Nigeria are now outside the top five, with Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, and Côte d’Ivoire (who moved two places) occupying those spots.
The next FIFA World Rankings will be published on 18th November.
