The Chairman of Nigeria Volleyball Referees Association, Sam Timothy has advised referees to practice online during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Timothy told www.aclsports.com that this will help national and international referees keep their officiating skills intact.

He said most referees have not attended tournaments in 2020 while others officiated during the zonal eliminations of the 2020 National Sports Festival urging referees to avoid contacts during this period.

Timothy said, “Since the declaration of the lockdown by the Federal Government of Nigeria, my advise to referees across the country is to engage themselves in online officiating.

We are currently in the digital world and since all of us will be indoors; it is best for elite referees and junior referees to watch games via the internet and officiate”.

“Some referees officiated at the zonal eliminations of the 2020 National Sports Festival, others at the Nigeria Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA) while the others have not officiated any game this year.

He urged referees to follow the guidelines laid down by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Timothy said, “Guidelines such as social distancing and watching of the hands for 30 seconds have been laid down by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, we should ensure they are followed to the letter.
