It was a week of cup games for Super Falcons trio Rita Chikwelu, Chinaza Uchendu and Asisat Oshoala as the AWCON winning Falcons featured for their respective sides in what was a tale of mixed fortunes at the end of regulation time in Sweden, Portugal and Spain respectively.

Chikwelu on target for Kristianstads

For the second cup game running Super Falcons captain Rita Chikwelu was on target for Kristianstads as they overcame Limhamn Bunkeflo 3-0 to progress in the Women’s Swedish Cup.

After scoring against Kalmar in the last outing, the 30-year-old continued with her impressive form with yet another strike seven minutes into the game to inspire her side to back-to-back wins in the Swedish Women’s Cup.

The 2018 AWCON winning captain featured for the entire duration of the encounter scoring in as many games this season to remain Group B leaders on a two-goal advantage tied with second-placed Rosengard on six points.

To advance, Kristianstads must now beat Rosengard to clinch the sole ticket in the last group game scheduled for the 3rd of March.

Oshoala comes off the bench in Barca loss

The Blaugranes were knocked out of the semifinal of the Copa de la Reina on Sunday after losing 2-0 to Atlético Femenino at the Ciudad Deportiva Wanda.

Meanwhile recent addition to the suqad, Nigeria’s Super Falcon Asisat Oshoala who has three goals in two games began the game on the bench but was later introduced in the 62nd minute after her side went a goal down in the 43rd minute late in the first half.

Her introduction was however not enough as Atlético Femenino scored another goal to put the game beyond Oshoala’s side.

Barca however tried to respond to the second goal through Oshoala who went close in the final stages but the former Female African Player if the Year wasn’t lucky enough to find the back of the net with her effort as her team slumped to a 2-0 defeat in the cup semi-final.

Uchendu inspires Braga comeback win

Elsewhere in Portugal, AWCON winning forward Uchendu Chinaza helped Braga to a 3-1 comeback victory over rivals Sporting to qualify for the last eight of the Portuguese Women’s Cup.

Uchendu who has been a part of her side’s good run this season proved her qualities once more with a crucial equaliser mintues after the restart as her team starred defeat in the face.

She was however later replaced in the 74th minute after another fine display which gave her side belief to turn the tie around and progress to the next round of the competition.
