Pep Guardiola is a happy man after Manchester City ended Liverpool’s unbeaten run following a 2-1 victory at the Etihad stadium.

German forward, Leroy Sane, scored the decisive winner as the defending champions revived what was a fading title defence.

Sergio Aguero got the evening off to a wonderful start when his excellent effort had City 1-0 ahead at the break.

Roberto Firmino equalised for the visitors in the second half before Sane struck a late winner to hand Guardiola’s side a deserved victory.

With the result, Guardiola’s champions moved from third to second, and are firmly back in the title race.

The champions are now just four points behind Liverpool, who remain top of the log despite their defeat, their first of the campaign.

“We are happy for this victory to reduce the gap,” Guardiola said moments after the game. “Everything is open [and] we beat an incredible team.”
