Super Falcons forward Chioma Okafor has signed a three-year contract with the North Carolina Courage in the National Women’s Soccer League, with an additional club option for the 2029 season, www.aclsports.com reports.
The signing marks Okafor’s first step into professional football, following an exceptional collegiate career with the University of Connecticut Huskies, where she emerged as one of the programme’s most potent attackers. Over four seasons at UConn, she played 57 matches, scoring 30 goals and registering five assists
The 2024 WAFCON champion’s time with the Huskies was marked by consistent excellence. She earned First Team All-BIG EAST honours in each of her final three seasons, alongside three All-American selections. She was also a 2024 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist and appeared on the 2025 preseason watchlist, underscoring her status as one of the NCAA’s top forwards.
North Carolina Courage Chief Soccer Officer Ceri Bowley described Okafor as a powerful and fearless attacker whose pace and directness will add a new dimension to the team’s forward line. He also praised her competitive mindset and eagerness to develop, noting that she fits seamlessly into the culture the club is building.
Okafor expressed her enthusiasm about the move, saying, “I’m excited to call North Carolina home and sign with the Courage. From the early conversations with the team, I fell in love with the developmental plan they laid out for me and the drive to build back this club’s championship roots. I can’t wait to get to work in 2026.”
Fans will be eager to see Okafor bring her talent to the Courage next season.
