The competition held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja saw Algeria finish in second place with 96 medals comprising 64 gold, 22 silver, and 22 bronze.
Kenya secured third with 48 medals, including 20 gold, 16 silver, and 12 bronze. Ghana placed fourth with a total of 36 medals, comprising 7 gold, 14 silver, and 15 bronze, while Ethiopia rounded out the top five with 16 medals — 6 gold, 8 silver, and 2 bronze.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, commended the athletes for their outstanding performance, noting that their success served as a vital morale booster for the Nigerian military.
“As we held these Games and won medals, our officers on the frontlines and in the trenches were listening to the news, hearing about our victories. It significantly boosts their morale, motivating them to push harder, knowing their colleagues are excelling as well,” General Musa said.
The CDS also highlighted the strength of the Nigerian military’s organizational structure, noting the diverse specializations within the forces, ranging from sports and combat to engineering, medical, and mechanical fields. “Everyone operates under the same body, focused and united in purpose. No one is distracted,” he added.
General Musa further emphasized that the games provided an opportunity to showcase Nigeria to the world, demonstrating the country’s safety and resilience. “This event has helped project Nigeria positively across Africa and globally,” he concluded.
