Sunshine Queens have sacked head coach Kayode Olujohungbe following a poor run of results in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, www.aclsports.com reports.
The decision comes after a 1–0 defeat to Ahudiyannem Queens in their Matchday 13 clash at the Ondo State Sports Complex in Akure on Friday. The defeat, their fifth of the campaign, leaves Sunshine Queens ninth in Group B with 12 points from 13 matches.
Sunshine Queens’ last win came on Matchday 8 against Nasarawa Amazons, but they have struggled since. Their recent run includes a 1–0 loss to FC Robo in Lagos, a goalless draw against Delta Queens in Akure, a 2–1 defeat to Dannaz in Lagos, and the latest setback against Ahudiyannem Queens, which ultimately sealed Olujohungbe’s fate.
Following his dismissal, Tayo Onilude has been appointed head coach with immediate effect.
He faces a challenging run of fixtures as the Akure-based side aim to avoid relegation, with tough matches ahead against top sides such as Abia Angels, Remo Stars Ladies, and Nasarawa Amazons.
Meanwhile, Ahudiyannem Queens are unbeaten in four matches since the appointment of Adanna Nwaneri. Uduakobang Monday Peter’s 37th-minute strike proved decisive, securing their third win in four games—three of which came away from home.
Originally scheduled for Thursday, the encounter was halted after seven minutes due to heavy rain and was completed on Friday.
The victory moves Ahudiyannem Queens up to sixth place, one point behind fifth-placed Delta Queens.
